HYDERABAD, Aug 15: The famous Indian movie actor, Dilip Kumar, has launched India's first 24-hour exclusive Urdu television channel in the southern city of Hyderabad. The ETV Urdu channel is owned by a private Television network which runs five other language channels in India: Telegu, Kannada, Marahati, Bengali and Oriya. The company chairman Ramaji Rao said it would provide entertainment as well as news and current affairs to the country's estimated 250 million Urdu speakers. He said the programs would also be available in more than 50 other countries.

The free-to-air digital channel, "ETV Urdu" will have a fair mix of entertainment and information with hourly news updates, telefilms, family dramas, daily soaps, and devotional and musical programs. Having a tie-up with Reuters Television, CNN International and Transworld International, the channel would ensure comprehensive coverage of international news and current affairs. It will have talk shows, Mushairas and weekly serials. The ETV Urdu channel would fulfill the "arzoo" of the Urdu-loving population for wholesome entertainment. A special news capsule "Khaas Baat" has been designed to cover news from important towns and cities where Urdu is the most cherished language.
